This course provides participants with a practical understanding of the frameworks, responsibilities and processes that support effective institutional decision-making. It explores different levels of managerial and strategic decisions, the relationship between authority and accountability, and the respective roles of boards, executive management, committees and working teams in developing, approving and implementing institutional decisions. Participants will examine how decisions can be strengthened through appropriate governance, legal and organisational considerations, structured consultation and collective analysis. The course also covers problem definition, root-cause analysis, team formation, brainstorming and consultation techniques, development and evaluation of alternative options, ethical considerations, decision communication, implementation and performance review.
